What to pray:

  • First of all, please thank God with me, for all of the provisions for Jack that have been provided. Wonderful doctors, a dear friend who is also a hospice nurse, family members, wonderful neighbors, and all the loving people who are carrying my family and being so supportive and helpful through all of this.  
  • Please pray for my children. We have had many tears and they are experiencing lots of fear in seeing their father so ill.
  • Pray for God's will to be done. We want Jack to be healed and live but do not want to see his suffering prolonged.
  • Pray that his days are filled with music, love and his children being around him.
  • Please pray for me as I am trying to do college applications, file for social security, sort through medical bills, pay regular bills, care for Jack, the girls, etc.

Please pray for Jack and Barbie. They have been fighting all day to get the insurance company to allow Jack to go to the rehabilitation care facility at St. Mary's Hospital. The insurance company does not have coverage at that hospital and are trying to force Jack to come to a facility in San Jose where he would not get nearly the care that is available at St. Mary's. Jack was able to stay at UCSF tonight, but the insurance company wants him to leave there tomorrow. He is still too weak to go directly home. If Jack gets treatment in San Jose, he won't have access to an oncologist.
  • Please ask God to intervene once again to provide all of the care that Jack needs for his recovery from surgery to repair his broken leg. 
  • Please ask God to move on the hearts of the people who decide at the insurance company where Jack will get care. 
  • Please pray that God will give peace to Jack and Barbie and protect them and their family.
  • Please ask God to give strength to Jack and Barbie for all they have to deal with.

  1. Pray that the "Ipi" treatments works more aggressively and his immune system responds.
  2. Pray that the nerves in his spinal column would not be permanently damaged and the tumors there shrink quickly.
  3. Pray that the numbness and tingly feelings disappear.
  4. Pray that he would be able to get rest and sleep well and that he would feel less or no fatigue. 
  5. Pray that God would shrink all the tumors.
  6. Pray that God would protect his brain.
  7. Pray for complete health and remission of the cancer.
  8. Pray that the process of filing for disability, etc. would go smoothly for Barbie.

  1. Pray that the "Ipi" treatments work and his immune system responds.
  2. Pray that God would shrink all the tumors.
  3. Pray that the radiation and Cyberknife would work and he would have minimal side affects.
  4. Pray that God would protect his brain and spinal column from damage.
  5. Pray for complete health and remission of the cancer.
  6. Pray that Jack would have energy and strength to enjoy the fundraiser being held in his honor.

Please pray the following:

  1. That Jack’s body would respond to the “Ipi” treatment.
  2. That there would be no new tumor growth in his brain or body.
  3. That he would have mild or no side effects from the "Ipi" treatment. 
  4. That the swelling around the optic nerve would subside restoring Jack’s vision. 
  5. That Jack would be able to sleep well. 
  6. That Jack would be able to exercise and build his strength after months of treatment. 
  7. That Jack would be able to enjoy the holidays.
  8. Ask God to completely remove all cancer from Jack's body.

  1. Please pray for a miraculous healing.
  2. Ask God to stop the formation of any new tumors.
  3. Ask God to stop the growth of all tumors.
  4. Ask God to completely remove all cancer from Jack's body.
  5. Pray for Jack and his family to be protected from all infections, flu, and other diseases during this time while he is recovering from his latest chemo treatments.

  1. Pray for Jack to be able to eat and drink in order to keep his strength up and for him to be able to sleep at night.
  2. Pray that Jack's vital signs will remain in the "safe" range in order to continue the treatments.
  3. Pray for his reaction to the drug to be minimal.
  4. Pray for his blood platelet count to not drop too low.
  5. Pray that the Interleukin 2 will be effective in targeting the tumors in his body and attacking them.
  6. Pray for a healing miracle to erase all tumors from Jack's body.

  1. Please pray specifically for Jack's blood platelet count to stabilize and not drop below what it is currently.  If it drops much more they will need to discontinue treatment before the goal of five straight days.

  1. For him to not have any strong reaction to the medicine - especially that he wouldn't get rigors.
  2. For his kidneys and liver to continue to filter out toxins and that he will be able to drink the high volume of water required.
  3. For his heart rate to stay strong and not drop below a healthy range.
  4. For his body to respond to the treatment by going into full remission.

- Ask God to heal Jack completely of melanoma.
- Pray that God will give peace to Jack and Barbie and their family, especially this week.
- Ask God to give wisdom to the doctors and nurses about Jack's care throughout the week.
- Pray that God will protect Jack's body against any harmful side effects of the treatment.
- Ask God to direct Jack's immune system to attack only harmful cells and tumors. 
- Pray that ministering angels will be released to watch over Jack.
- Ask God to give strength to Jack to endure this treatment.
- Pray that Jesus Christ will be glorified.

  1. The steroids and radiation treatments for the spinal lesions will be effective and the tumors completely erradicated.
  2. There will be relief soon and NO permanant damage.
  3. Jack will remain hopeful and be strong for the difficult IL-2 treatments coming.
  4. That Jack would respond to these treatments and the cancer will be destroyed by his immune system.
  5. There would be no long-lasting residual side effects
Tuesday April, 2010
  1. Pray that the pulmonary (lung) tumors continue to shrink and die. There is one stubborn one that seems isn't responding.
  2. That there will be no more new lesions, and especially that all organs would be protected.
  3. Pray that Jack would not have difficult nausea during chemo.
  4. Jack continues to have a knee injury that is still causing him pain. Please pray that the doctor will prescribe he right treatment.
  5. Pray that he would not become discouraged and that he would feel strong.
 
February 23, 2010
  1. Pray that the tumors continue to shrink. There are several stubborn ones that are not responding.
  2. Pray that if it is time to switch trials that it would be clear to Jack's doctor and us.
  3. Pray that Jack would not have difficult nausea during chemo.
  4. Jack has had problems with a bruised knee that is causing him pain and he is not up to more doctors visits. Please pray that the pain would disappear.
  5. Pray that he would not become discouraged and that he would feel strong.
P.S. Thank you for praying that Jack would not get sick during flu season. He has not been sick once!


November 13, 2009
  1. Jack's doctor wants the entire family to get H1N1 vaccinations. This has not been an easy endeavor! We are not finding a place that has the shots, everyone is waiting like us. Please pray that we are all able to find a place to receive the shots.
  2. Please pray for Jack, now that it is flu season. Pray that he will be protected from all the colds, flus and illnesses that come with winter.
  3. Pray that Jack has the energy to deal with the busy holiday season and extra hours. 

October 16, 2009 

  1. Jack and the entire family must get H1N1 flue shots and standard seasonal flu shots. Please pray that we can make this happen soon and find the H1N1 available.
  2. Please pray for Jack during this flu season, he is constantly around many people at work. Please pray that he will be protected from getting sick.

September 29, 2009

  1. Jack's immune system will increasingly be compromised with the accumulation of chemo in his body. As we are coming into flu season along with the typical problems associated with Jack's type of chemo, we are asking for prayer. Please pray that he stays healthy and does not have any symptoms of the typical reaction to chemo. Also, that he would not pick up any type of flu bug during this season.
  2. Cancer cells are smart. They can begin to recognize the drugs and mutate in a way that would end the good response that jack is having. Please pray that Jack's body would continue to respond so well to the treatment and not allow the cancer cells to repair themselves.

 

September 9, 2009

  1. That first and foremost, God's will be done, and any snares and stumbling blocks would be removed immediately.
  2. That God-willing, the Clinical Trial Doctor would make a rare exception, citing that the brain tumor could be viewed as separate, it's treatment would not skew the other data, and that continuing the systemic treatment including Chemo with the new drug would be in my best interest.
  3. That all of my treatments will be 100% successful, and lead me to to the place of 100% permanent remission, and to cancer-free, AMEN!
     

September 1, 2009

  1. That the tumors everywhere would continue to shrink.
  2. The neurosurgery team at UCSF would get a clear sense of the best treatment for Jack's new tumor in his brain.
  3. That there would be NO MORE new tumors or growth of tumors in the brain.
  4. That Jack responds well to the current treatment and not feel ill while we are on vacation.
  5. That Jack would feel peace and confidence and not be discouraged or fearful.
     

August 11, 2009

  1. Jack is on his treatment now. Please continue to pray for it's effectiveness in destroying the cancer and that the cancer will not spread any further!
  2. He has had a slightly elevated temperature. Please pray that this would normalize.
  3. Pray that he will be protected from germs and viruses following his treatment and that he would not become ill.  The chemotherapy suppresses his immune system.
  4. Pray that he will not feel nauseous or weak and tired, and that he will be able to continue working.
     

June 26, 2009

  1. Thank God that the tumors are shrinking and pray that they completely die.
  2. Pray that no additional cancer cells travel to the brain.
  3. Pray that Jack does not have a harsh reaction to the medication, with low or no nausea, and etc. 
  4. Pray that he can continue to work.
  5. Pray that Jack gets the right combination of drugs that will be most effective for his body.
  6. Pray that we will be able to get in to see Dr. Schuchter at the University of Pennsylvania as soon 
    as possible.

  1. Thank God that nothing can separate us from his love.
  2. Thank God for upholding our lives in the face of every danger.
  3. Thank God that He has the power to heal every disease and condition.
  4. Thank God for giving Jack and Barbie guidance at every step.
  5. Pray that God will strengthen Jack's body to endure the Interleukin treatments and minimize his distress.
  6. Ask God to cause the treatments to begin as soon as possible.
  7. Ask God to make the treatments effective in destroying all the cancer cells.
  8. Ask God to cause the tumors to shrink.
  9. Pray that God will completely heal Jack of melanoma so that it never returns.
  10. Ask God to give peace to Jack and Barbie and their family.

  1. Thank God for all that He is doing through Jack's life.
  2. Thank God He sustains and upholds the sick and heals our diseases.
  3. Thank God that all of His intentions toward us are good.
  4. Ask God to give peace to Jack and Barbie and their family.
  5. Ask God to give them clear direction about where to get treatment and what treatments to choose.
  6. Ask God to remove obstacles so that Jack can begin treatment quickly.
  7. Ask God to cause the insurance company to pay for the costs of treatment without hindering the treatment.
  8. Ask God to completely heal Jack of melanoma.


  •  June 2, 2009
    1.  The medical records requested from Stanford Hospital are brought together TODAY, and they call Jack to pick up the records.
    2.  UCSF can get Jack in sooner than June 11; Jack and Barbie don't want to wait that long. Pray for a cancellation to allow this.
    3.  God will do everything they need to pull everything together during this phase.

     
  • May 27, 2009
    1. The MRI Jack had on Tuesday will reveal any additional spots on his brain in preparation for the Cyberknife surgery on Friday. We are praying that there are no more spots.
    2. We are meeting with the doctors at UCSF and will determine where Jack is treated. Our current doctor is also talking with doctors at Angeles hospital in LA. Please pray that God gives us clear direction on where to go.
    3. His treatment is scheduled to begin around June 6. Please pray that God would prepare him mentally and physically.
    4. We are also praying simply that his body would respond to the treatment.

    1. For Jack to be completely healed of the melanoma.
    2. For each "hot spot" of malignant cells in his body, organs, and brain to be completely gone.
    3. For the malignant cells to be corralled in their locations, to stop growing, and to not be able to migrate to other places. 
    4. For Jack and the doctors to make the right decisions concerning treatment protocols.
    5. For Jack to stay in a place of faith and hope for his future.
    6. For Jack, Barbie and the girls to have God's peace.
    7. For the treatment procedure to remove the cancer in Jack's brain to be successful and for Jack to be protected during the treatment and to have a speedy recovery.
